The art of reverse painting, etching and gilding precious metals on the reverse side of glass is referred to as "verre eglomise" popularised by 18th century French decorator and art-dealer Jean-Baptise Glomy (1711–1786), although it is an art technique that can be found on artwork predating Roman times.
The Studio can do reverse painted artwork in any style, modern or classical and using gold, silver and metal leaf. It is available in water gilded antiqued mirror ranging from light to heavily aged silver and gold. A few possible uses for gilded/painted glass include: mirrors, table tops, cabinet door insets, folding screens, kitchen/bath backsplashes and wall murals. All work is done in the studio in London UK, but can be shipped anywhere worldwide. Please contact the studio for more information and quotes.
